Jaishankar
The Indian and American governments now view each other as “desirable, ideal, and comfortable partners,” according to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who stated today that it is impossible to set boundaries on the bilateral relationship.
Mr. Jaishankar said, “I am frequently asked, Where do you think this relationship (India-US) is going? Now, it’s really hard for me today, really, to put a limit on it, to define it, to even voice expectations, because in every way this relationship has exceeded expectations, which is why today we don’t even try to define it. In fact, we continually raise the bar.
This week, Mr. Jaishankar met with the secretary of state, Antony Blinken, as well as senior US government officials, corporate executives, and think tank professionals. The External Affairs Minister asserted that there is a “very compelling need” for cooperation between India and the United States and that Washington benefits from allies who share its values.
Mr. Jaishankar emphasized that bilateral ties between India and the US will continue to grow and expand, much like the historic Chandrayaan lunar mission of ISRO.
Several hundred Indian-Americans gathered at the India House to celebrate the “Celebrating Colors of Friendship” event organized by the Embassy of India in the US. I heard Mr. Jaishankar say, “I think that is something I would certainly like to acknowledge in public in Washington, DC. The contribution, the support, and the understanding that we got from the United States to make a successful G20.
“So, while it might have technically been our success, I believe it was the success of the G20 (nations). To me, it was also a triumph for the US-India alliance; kindly continue to give this alliance the support it demands, deserves, and needs. And I can assure you that, like the Chandrayaan, this partnership will endure to the moon and possibly beyond,” he continued.
“In this evolving world, I’d argue that India and the United States have come to a place where we truly perceive each other as extremely desirable, ideal partners, comfortable partners, with whom it’s a natural inclination today. Therefore, the current chemistry and ease in the relationship offer me great hope for the future, he continued.
In the midst of the diplomatic dispute with Canada over the assassination of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil in June of this year, Mr. Jaishankar recently met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington.
