JAIPUR: Rajasthan will distribute 100 units of free energy to each family beginning June 1, in accordance with the Congress government’s budget statement, which aims to provide relief to the state’s more than 1 crore residential consumers who are linked to the grid.
The new scheme will most likely cost the state exchequer Rs 5,200 crore each year. The combined financial weight is projected to be Rs 7,000 crore, in addition to the present subsidy ranging from Rs 300 to Rs 750 that remains available for anyone hesitant to opt for free power. “The state has a total of 1.24 crore household power customers. There are 1.04 crore people who use less than 100 units per month among them “as per a top official.
“If a user has more than one connection, the benefits will be granted based on the number of individuals registered in their Jan Aadhaar cards. If a family of three has as many connections, each of them can claim free power,” the official said.
Electricity distribution companies have undertaken the required preparations, such as changing invoicing software. By registering at a government-organized event dubbed the inflation relief camp, consumers will be eligible for the scheme.
“More than 76 lakh consumers have registered for the free electricity,” the official said. “Consumers exceeding over 100 units will continue to receive the fixed subsidy from the government. There is no obligation to shift to the new plan,” the official said.
Officials have been given instructions to prevent misuse and electricity theft.
