In a major step to improve healthcare for railway employees and their dependents, Central Hospital, North Central Railway (NCR), Prayagraj, inaugurated the Automated Blood Culture System (BACT/Alert 3D) today. Developed by French company BIOMERIEUX, the system enables fast, accurate, and efficient detection of bloodstream infections.
Dr Himangshu Mondal, Principal Chief Medical Director (PCMD) of NCR, inaugurated the system. He reaffirmed NCR’s commitment to enhancing medical services for railway personnel and their families. Senior officials, including Dr SK Handoo (Medical Director, Central Hospital), Dr Prakash Murmu, Dr (Mrs) Tulika Mishra, and Dr Usha SP Yadav, also attended the event, along with doctors and paramedical staff.
High-Capacity Testing for Faster Diagnosis
The BACT/Alert 3D system can test up to 120 culture samples at once, making it ideal for high-demand hospital settings. It provides optimal environments to detect a wide range of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and mycobacteria.
This compact, modular, and flexible platform supports increased workloads while ensuring faster results. As laboratories face growing pressure for quick turnaround and efficient staff utilisation, the system offers a scalable and smart solution for clinical diagnostics.
Commitment to Modern Healthcare
Dr Mondal stated, “We prioritise the health and well-being of our employees and their dependents. This system will reduce diagnostic time and improve treatment outcomes for bloodstream infections.” He underlined the critical role modern medical technology plays in timely diagnosis and disease control.
Dr Usha SP Yadav, Additional Chief Health Director, NCR, led the event. Chief Lab Superintendent Mr Sheo Sagar Saw and Lab Superintendent Mr Umesh Kumar Bharti, along with the entire laboratory staff, played key roles in organising the programme.
The smooth commissioning of this new system reflects the coordinated effort across departments. Active participation from doctors, technical teams, and hospital staff highlighted NCR’s united approach to upgrading healthcare infrastructure.
