Rahul Gandhi Meets Protesting BPSC Candidates In Patna; Demonstrates Solidarity

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi met with protesting BPSC (Bihar Public Service Commission) exam candidates in Patna on Saturday, a move that is expected to draw significant political attention. The students have been agitating over alleged irregularities in the 70th BPSC Preliminary Test (PT), held on December 13, 2024, and have demanded the cancellation of the examination due to claims of “rigging” and “unfair practices.”

Congress shared pictures of Rahul Gandhi’s meeting with the agitating students on social media platform X, highlighting his engagement with the candidates.

The party posted: “Leader of Opposition Shri @RahulGandhi met BPSC aspirants in Patna and heard their demands. The demands of the youth are justified. The Bihar government should accept them.”

During the visit, Rahul Gandhi refrained from making any public statements or announcements. Instead, he opted for quiet interactions with the students, listening to their grievances without addressing the media or issuing any commitments.

This subdued approach has sparked curiosity among political observers, some of whom see it as a strategic move to show solidarity with the students while avoiding the politicization of the protest.

A National-Level Leader’s First Direct Engagement

Sources indicated that the students appreciated Rahul Gandhi’s visit, as it marked the first time a national-level leader had directly engaged with them at the protest site. The students expressed gratitude for his attention, which many considered a significant show of support.

The controversy surrounding the BPSC examination recently escalated to the state’s highest constitutional office. Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan met with a delegation of candidates on January 13, assuring them of justice within the constitutional framework.

The delegation, which included representatives from the Jan Suraaj Party, submitted a detailed account of their concerns about the examination process, including claims of mishandling and unfair practices.

The Governor listened attentively for 45 minutes and took note of the candidates’ demands for fairness and transparency in the examination process. This meeting followed a public outcry over the alleged irregularities, with students pressing for a fair resolution to their grievances.

Political And Public Attention On The Issue

As the BPSC controversy continues to unfold, the involvement of both national political figures like Rahul Gandhi and the Governor underscores the significance of the issue. The students’ protests have become a focal point, with demands for justice growing louder and gaining widespread attention.

Whether the Bihar government will address these concerns remains to be seen, but the issue is certainly shaping up to have a lasting impact on the political discourse in the state.
