Dr. Dinesh Sharma Criticizes ‘English Mentality’ And Advocates For Hindi, Values, And National Culture

In a significant address at a literary and cultural felicitation ceremony organized by Vishwa Hindi Manch in Hapur, Dr. Dinesh Sharma, former Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and current Rajya Sabha MP, delivered strong remarks on the dangers of adopting an “English mentality” in India. Dr. Sharma emphasized that this mentality poses a threat to the country’s societal values, family structures, and national progress.

Dr. Sharma highlighted the crucial role of language in a nation’s development, drawing parallels between the success of countries like Japan, Germany, and Russia and their emphasis on promoting their native languages.

He argued that the progress of these nations can be attributed to their commitment to their national languages, which is also evident in China’s focus on the Chinese language. He made it clear that politics should not be based on language in India and lauded the government’s move to prioritize regional languages in the New Education Policy.

Values Over Mobile Phones For Children

In a candid discussion on the upbringing of children, Dr. Sharma suggested that values should be instilled in children from an early age, rather than merely providing them with mobile phones. He explained how modern children often learn negative values from excessive phone use.

Drawing from personal experience, he advised that children must be taught lessons of patriotism, responsibility, and ethics — values traditionally passed down through stories of historical figures like Rani Lakshmibai and Maharana Pratap. While acknowledging that English schools play an important role, Dr. Sharma cautioned against the negative impact of an English-centric mindset on families and society.

Dr. Sharma firmly stated that Hindi, a language rooted in the ancient Sanskrit language, is vital for preserving Indian culture and values. He stressed that without instilling these values, a focus on monetary gain alone would lead to societal challenges. Hindi, according to Dr. Sharma, plays a key role in fostering these values and can contribute to national change.

He also addressed the issue of leadership, criticizing certain political figures for undermining the significance of Indian culture. Citing the example of Alexander’s encounter with Chandragupta Maurya, Dr. Sharma emphasized how culture and values ultimately shape the trajectory of civilizations.

The Significance Of The Kumbh Mela And Its Impact

Dr. Sharma praised the ongoing Kumbh Mela, highlighting the extraordinary turnout of more than 8 crore people so far and predicting that up to 40 crore people will attend by the end of the event. He noted the global attention the Kumbh Mela has garnered, with foreign researchers studying the massive crowds. Dr. Sharma refuted claims from critics who have downplayed the Kumbh’s success, pointing out the substantial efforts made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who organized thousands of trains, buses, and flights for the event.

He also stressed that the Kumbh serves as a powerful symbol of Sanatan culture, where various conferences on culture, religion, and language are being held, showcasing the deep faith of the Indian people.

Dr. Sharma reiterated that while children should be taught multiple languages, Hindi should be prioritized for imparting cultural values. He advocated for the importance of making Hindi the national language, calling for greater efforts to promote and preserve the language alongside India’s cultural heritage.

Several prominent BJP leaders attended the event, including BJP President Naresh Tomar, former MP Pradeep Chaudhary, MLA Harendra Tewatia, District Panchayat President Rekha Nagar, MLA candidate Tej Singh, and senior BJP leaders DD Sharma, Vikas Aggarwal, Satya Prakash Vikal. Program coordinator Lokesh Sharma and other cultural advocates also participated.

Dr. Sharma’s remarks have sparked a discussion on the future of language, culture, and values in India, with an emphasis on preserving national identity while embracing modern advancements.
