Principal Arrested for Alleged Sexual Harassment
In a troubling incident in Haryana’s Jind district, a government school principal has been arrested for alleged sexual harassment of more than 50 girl students. The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Amit Kumar Bhatia, who heads a Special Investigation Team, confirmed the arrest and stated that the principal had been on the run for five days before being apprehended. The authorities intend to seek his police remand for further investigations.

The allegations came to light when over 50 female students of the government school accused the principal of sexual harassment, as reported by the Haryana State Commission for Women. The chairperson of the State Commission for Women, Renu Bhatia, revealed that they had received 60 written complaints from the girl students. Among these, 50 complaints detailed physical abuse by the accused, while ten other girls mentioned that they were aware of the principal’s inappropriate behavior.

The case registered by the Jind district police includes charges under Sections 354-A (sexual harassment), 341 (wrongful restraint), and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Importantly, all the complainants in this distressing case are minors.
The victims alleged that the principal used to summon them to his office and engage in obscene acts. Furthermore, it was reported that a group of students from the school had sent letters detailing their ordeal to the Prime Minister’s Office and the National Commission for Women.
