President Murmu Expresses Deep Grief Over Mansa Devi Temple Stampede In Uttarakhand

President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday expressed her deep anguish over the tragic stampede near the Mansa Devi Temple in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar.

The unfortunate incident, which occurred in the early hours of the day, claimed six lives and left many injured as large crowds gathered during the auspicious month of Sawan.

Taking to the social media platform X, President Murmu conveyed her sorrow and solidarity with the affected families. “The news of the death of many devotees in the stampede accident on the way to the Mansa Devi Temple in Haridwar is deeply painful. I express my heartfelt condolences to all the grieving families. I pray that all the injured devotees recover quickly,” she wrote.

Her words reflected a deep sense of empathy and offered a measure of solace to those mourning the sudden loss of their loved ones. The President’s message has resonated widely, drawing support from citizens across the country.

Tragedy During Pilgrimage Rush

The stampede took place early Sunday morning as thousands of pilgrims were heading towards the Mansa Devi Temple, a significant religious site in Haridwar. Due to the Sawan pilgrimage, the temple had seen unusually high footfall, leading to severe overcrowding.

According to Haridwar SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal, a sudden rumour of an electric current on the temple path triggered panic among the devotees.

The resulting chaos caused people to push each other in the narrow lane, leading to a deadly crush.

Emergency services, including medical teams and police personnel, responded promptly.

Rescue operations were initiated without delay, and the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. The district administration has continued to monitor the situation and coordinate relief efforts.

Authorities are now investigating the cause of the incident and whether adequate crowd control measures were in place.

While the administration had deployed forces and planned for increased turnout, the tragedy raises serious questions about preparedness during high-risk periods like Sawan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also responded to the incident, offering condolences and affirming that local officials were providing necessary support.

However, the focus of public emotion and attention remains on President Murmu’s heartfelt message, which encapsulated the nation’s collective grief and concern.

As Uttarakhand continues to attract pilgrims in large numbers, officials have been urged to review existing safety protocols to prevent such tragedies in the future.

President Murmu’s words serve not only as a tribute to those lost but also as a call for introspection and immediate action to safeguard devotees.
