PM Narendra Modi, in the 124th episode of his monthly radio address Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, praised the unwavering dedication of citizens in advancing the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Calling it a powerful example of national unity, he emphasised how collective will can turn seemingly impossible tasks into reality.
“Many people once doubted whether such a mission could succeed,” PM Modi said. “But when the entire country rallies around a single thought, even the impossible becomes possible.”
Marking the upcoming 11th anniversary of the mission, the Prime Minister reiterated its continued relevance.
“The strength and the need for the Swachh Bharat Mission remain just as vital today,” he said, describing the campaign as a true mass movement where citizens treat cleanliness as a personal responsibility.
He also pointed out that the annual Swachh Survekshan (cleanliness survey) plays a key role in inspiring participation across the country.
“This year, over 4,500 cities and towns joined in, with more than 15 crore people taking part. These numbers represent the voice of Swachh Bharat,” he said.
PM Modi highlighted how various cities and towns have adopted innovative methods tailored to their local environments.
The Prime Minister especially commended women-led efforts that are redefining public hygiene.
PM Modi also appreciated the long-standing dedication of volunteers.
In Lucknow, the Gomti River team has engaged in weekly clean-up drives every Sunday for the past 10 years, maintaining cleanliness along the riverbanks.
Concluding his address, PM Modi reminded citizens that true cleanliness requires ongoing effort.
“Cleanliness is not a one-day task. It must become a daily habit, a part of our lives every moment throughout the year,” he said.
The Prime Minister’s remarks underscored how the Swachh Bharat Mission continues to thrive due to grassroots commitment, community innovation, and public ownership, laying the foundation for a cleaner, healthier India.
