Marking the 100th anniversary of the historic Kakori Train Action, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya paid homage to the revolutionaries who carried out the daring act that shook the British colonial government.
Speaking at a commemorative event held at Amar Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad Park in Prayagraj, Maurya highlighted the enduring legacy of the freedom fighters and their profound impact on the nation’s history.
Maurya emphasized the significance of Prayagraj in India’s independence movement, referring to the city as a pivotal center where numerous freedom fighters, including Chandrashekhar Azad, Madan Mohan Malviya, Baba Bhimrao Ambedkar, and Shaheed Roshan Singh, had left an indelible mark.
“The soil of this city, where great sons of the nation sacrificed their lives, is as precious as sandalwood,” he remarked, urging the younger generations to draw inspiration from the dedication and bravery of these heroes.
The Deputy CM also underscored the importance of renaming the historical event from Kakori Incident to Kakori Train Action, explaining that the previous name carried a sense of dishonor, which did not befit such a significant chapter in India’s struggle for freedom.
Maurya asserted that the word ‘scandal’ misrepresented the heroism of the revolutionaries. He emphasized our duty to preserve the honor and glory of the Tricolour and to ensure that we never forget the sacrifices of our forefathers.
Maurya Urges Nationwide Unity For ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’
In his address, Maurya also called for nationwide unity in celebrating the upcoming Independence Day, encouraging citizens to participate in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ Abhiyan by proudly displaying the national flag at their homes and workplaces from 13 to 15 August.
“The tricolor is a symbol of our resilience and unity. Let us respond to our nation’s challenges by waving it high,” he further urged.
During the event, the Deputy CM took the opportunity to visit an exhibition dedicated to the centenary celebrations of the Kakori Train Action, further emphasizing the government’s commitment to honoring the freedom fighters.
Addressing the media afterward, he touched on various contemporary issues, including the Waqf Bill, which he defended as a measure aimed at benefiting economically disadvantaged Muslims, despite criticism from political opponents.
Maurya also commented on the developments in Bangladesh, stating that the Central Government is closely monitoring the situation and reiterating the importance of a strong India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Metropolitan President Rajendra Mishra, Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani, and District Panchayat President Dr. V K Singh, among others, who gathered at Bamrauli Airport to welcome the Deputy CM.
As the centenary celebrations of the Kakori Train Action concluded, Maurya’s message was clear; the spirit of patriotism and self-reliance must continue to drive India forward as it asserts its place on the global stage.
