Police report 38 dead when a Jammu bus swerves off the road and falls 250 meters in Doda

According to police, 17 individuals were taken from the bus in the Doda district and taken to a hospital that was close by. Several of them are critically ill, according to the police.

JAMMU: On Wednesday, a passenger bus traveling to Jammu swerved off the road and tumbled 250 meters down a hill in the Doda area of Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in thirty-eight fatalities and seventeen injuries.

The passenger bus was traveling 200 miles, or five hours’ worth of travel, from Kishtwar to Jammu, according to a police official in the Doda control center.

In the Assar region of Doda district, the bus drove off the road and fell 250 meters close to Trungal. According to Abdul Qayoom, senior superintendent of police in Doda, who is overseeing the rescue efforts, “at least 38 passengers have died so far.” Among the initial responders were locals who helped remove the injured. The bus held roughly fifty-five people. Men and women were seen lying motionless on the street in a video footage taken of the scene following the collision. The villagers declared them dead.

According to a local official, “the injured have been shifted to nearby health facilities for immediate treatment.”

In expressing his condolences, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said he was “extremely pained by the loss of lives in the bus accident.” “I send my sincere condolences to the relatives of the deceased and hope that the accident victims heal quickly. He wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “Directed Div. Com & Dist. Admin to provide all necessary assistance to affected persons.”
