Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to the people of Maharashtra on Statehood Day through a letter addressed to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The Prime Minister described the state as a constant source of inspiration for Indian civilisation and noted that 2026 marks a significant period of cultural and historical convergence.
PM Modi balanced recognition of Maharashtra’s rich legacy with a forward-looking development agenda. He highlighted the state’s leadership in India’s economic transformation, particularly in infrastructure and innovation.
Prime Minister Modi cited a record allocation of Rs 24,000 crore for railway projects in 2025-26 as evidence of strong central support. He outlined key growth drivers, including the expansion of the Mumbai Metro Aqua Line, the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, the development of Vadhavan Port, and the rise of the Bidkin Industrial Area in Sambhajinagar.
The Prime Minister also noted the transformation of Gadchiroli, where declining Left-Wing Extremism has encouraged major investments.
PM Modi praised the ‘Viksit Maharashtra’ roadmap, structured across milestones for 2029, 2035, and 2047, aligning with the national objective of a developed India.
The Prime Minister commended advancements in data centres, digital infrastructure, and the creative ‘Orange Economy’. He also highlighted cultural milestones, including UNESCO recognition of Maratha forts, Classical Language status for Marathi, and Dr BR Ambedkar’s bust at UNESCO headquarters.
Concluding, Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment, stating Maharashtra remains crucial to India’s journey towards self-reliance.
