A major disruption during the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) entrance examination on Sunday led to serious concerns about the conduct of the test.
At the Delhi centre, delays in distributing question papers reportedly triggered a law and order situation.
Officials stated that several candidates, frustrated by prolonged delays, entered the strong room, causing damage and allegedly manhandling staff.
The incident prompted authorities to cancel the examination at the affected building for both shifts.
Police personnel and an official observer were present, while exams at other centres across the country proceeded without disruption.
Candidates also raised multiple issues, including late or missing question papers and a lack of compensatory time. They also flagged deviations from standard procedures, such as not opening sealed paper packets in front of candidates.
Student groups demanded a transparent inquiry, accountability for lapses, and an increase in the number of examination centres to reduce logistical challenges.
Following the incident, the Film and Television Institute of India on Wednesday issued an official notice. It announced a nationwide re-examination for all candidates who appeared for the 2025–26 entrance test.
The decision came after a committee, led by the registrar and comprising senior academic officials, reviewed the situation. It recommended corrective measures.
The institute stated that conducting a full re-examination was necessary to ensure a fair, transparent and credible assessment process for all aspirants. It emphasised that the step was taken to maintain uniformity and uphold the integrity of the examination system.
FTII clarified that candidates will not need to complete fresh registration, as existing application data will remain valid.
The institute will announce the detailed schedule for the re-examination and release admit cards separately on its official website. It will give candidates at least one month’s notice before the new examination date so they can make necessary arrangements.
The institute expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and assured candidates that it is implementing measures to conduct the re-examination smoothly and without lapses. It also advised candidates to regularly check official updates and reach out to the examination office for any queries.
