PM Modi Urges Global Embrace Of Yoga & Inner Peace As Collective Responsibility

At the 11th International Yoga Day, PM Modi urged the world to embrace inner peace as a policy and view yoga as a collective global duty.

Inner Peace

International Day Of Yoga: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while leading the 11th International Day of Yoga celebrations on Saturday, called on the international community to adopt ‘inner peace’ as a global policy and recognise yoga as a shared responsibility for humanity’s collective well-being.

Speaking at the large-scale event held along Visakhapatnam’s coastline, the Prime Minister appealed to nations to move beyond treating yoga as an individual or cultural tradition and to instead use it as a platform for global unity.

“I would like to take this opportunity to urge the global community on this important occasion to let this International Yoga Day mark the beginning of Yoga for Humanity. Let this be the day when inner peace becomes a global policy, where yoga is embraced not just as a personal practice, but as a powerful tool for global partnership and unity. Let every country and every society make yoga a shared responsibility, a common contribution toward collective well-being,” PM Modi stated.

Lakhs of yoga practitioners and attendees gathered alongside the Prime Minister to mark the occasion, as celebrations unfolded by the picturesque sea with Indian Navy ships lining the coast.

Calling for a worldwide movement, PM Modi asserted, “Come, let us all together make Yoga a mass movement. A movement that takes the world towards peace, health and harmony. Where every person starts the day with yoga and finds balance in life. Where yoga becomes the medium to bind humanity together. And where Yoga For One Earth, One Health becomes a global resolution.”

Yoga: From personal wellness to collective consciousness

Opening his speech, the Prime Minister conveyed greetings to people across the world, marking 11 years since the United Nations officially recognised 21 June as International Yoga Day.

Highlighting yoga’s capacity to foster a deeper bond with nature and community, PM Modi noted, “Yoga teaches us that we are not isolated individuals, we are an integral part of nature. In the beginning, it helps us take care of our own health and wellness. But gradually, this awareness expands, and we begin to care not only for ourselves but also for our environment, our society, and our planet. Yoga is a system that takes us from ‘Me’ to ‘We’.”

PM Modi further praised Andhra Pradesh’s leadership for hosting the large-scale celebration, calling the efforts of CM Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan ‘inspiring’ and ‘commendable’.

“Yoga is for everyone beyond boundaries, beyond backgrounds, beyond age or physical ability. It is a universal gift that unites humanity in health, harmony, and consciousness. Friends, I am truly grateful that we are here in Visakhapatnam, a city that beautifully blends nature with progress. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan for hosting such a wonderful event under your inspiring leadership. It is commendable that the state of Andhra Pradesh has taken this meaningful initiative to promote yoga,” Prime Minister remarked.

Reflecting on the global recognition of Yoga Day, the Prime Minister recalled India’s proposal at the United Nations in 2014, which quickly won the support of over 170 countries.
He noted how, in the years since, yoga has grown into a global practice associated with peace, stability, and collective progress.

This year’s Yoga Day saw participation from lakhs across various states, further reinforcing yoga’s role in fostering global connection and well-being.
