Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the redeveloped Mata Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur, Gomati district, Tripura, on Monday.
The 524-year-old temple is a revered Shakti Peetha and a symbol of the state’s rich cultural heritage.
The visit also underscores the government’s commitment to promoting spiritual tourism and preserving India’s cultural landmarks.
Maharaja Dhanya Manikya built the Tripura Sundari Temple in 1501, and authorities have redeveloped it under the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) scheme at a cost of over Rs 52 crore, with an additional Rs 7 crore contributed by the Tripura government.
The redevelopment includes upgraded infrastructure, beautified surroundings, and enhanced facilities for devotees.
PM Modi will arrive in Agartala from Arunachal Pradesh and proceed to Udaipur to inaugurate the redeveloped temple.
Following the inauguration, he will further offer puja at the Kali temple.
Chief Minister Manik Saha, who has overseen preparations for the visit, expressed his excitement on social media, sharing videos of the redeveloped temple and highlighting the significance of the inauguration.
The Mata Tripura Sundari Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India and the third in eastern India after Kolkata’s Kalighat Kali Temple and Guwahati’s Kamakhya Temple.
The shrine represents centuries of religious devotion and stands as a testament to Tripura’s cultural and spiritual legacy.
In addition to the temple redevelopment, the Tripura government is constructing a 51-Shakti Peethas Park in Banduar village, four km from the temple.
The Rs 97.70-crore park will feature replicas of all 51 Shakti Peethas, landscaped gardens, museums, guest accommodations, and other visitor amenities to create an immersive cultural and spiritual experience.
Furthermore, the project aims to boost religious tourism and provide economic opportunities for the region.
The Prime Minister’s inauguration of the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple is expected to draw pilgrims and tourists from across India and abroad, reinforcing Tripura’s status as a hub for spiritual tourism.
These initiatives, alongside the 51-Shakti Peethas Park, will generate employment, boost local businesses, and enhance the state’s socio-economic development.
PM Modi’s visit and the temple’s redevelopment reflect the government’s broader vision to preserve India’s spiritual heritage while promoting sustainable tourism and cultural engagement.
