Tomorrow, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate three major naval combatants—the INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, and INS Vaghsheer—on their commissioning at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. This milestone underscores India’s commitment to enhancing its defense manufacturing and maritime security.
The commissioning of these three advanced ships represents a significant leap forward in India’s vision of becoming a global leader in defense manufacturing. These naval combatants demonstrate the nation’s growing capabilities in building sophisticated maritime defense assets.
INS Surat, the fourth and final ship of the P15B Guided Missile Destroyer Project, is one of the largest and most advanced destroyers in the world. With an indigenous content of 75%, the ship boasts state-of-the-art weapon-sensor packages and advanced network-centric capabilities. This marks a key achievement for India in terms of self-reliance in building powerful naval assets.
The INS Nilgiri, the first ship of the P17A Stealth Frigate Project, represents the next generation of indigenous frigates. Designed by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau, it incorporates advanced features for enhanced survivability, seakeeping, and stealth. This ship is a testament to the Indian Navy’s growing expertise in constructing highly capable and future-ready warships.
The INS Vaghsheer, the sixth and final submarine of the P75 Scorpene Project, highlights India’s increasing proficiency in submarine construction. Built in collaboration with the Naval Group of France, this submarine is a significant addition to the Indian Navy’s fleet, further cementing the nation’s capabilities in underwater defense technology.
The commissioning of these three frontline naval combatants signals a momentous occasion for India’s defense sector.
