Four senior Army officers, including Lieutenant General Ram Chander Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command, held discussions with Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday regarding the security situation in the state.
The high-level meetings also focused on the broader security landscape of the northeastern region.
According to a Raj Bhavan official, Lieutenant General Tiwari briefed the Governor on the current security dynamics in Manipur and provided an update on the overall security status in the northeastern states.
Following the discussions, Chief Minister Biren Singh took to social media to highlight the key points of his meeting with the Army officers. In a post on X, he stated, “We discussed various matters, including strategies to strengthen security, improve coordination, and ensure the well-being of our citizens.”
The Army delegation included Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 3-Corps (Spear Corps), Major General SS Kartikeya, GOC of the 57 Mountain Division, and Major General Ravroop Singh, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South). These officers met with both Governor Bhalla and Chief Minister Singh to assess the region’s security needs and ensure a unified approach.

Later in the day, Chief Minister Biren Singh attended the Armed Forces Veterans’ Day celebration at the 1st Battalion of Manipur Rifles headquarters in Imphal. During the event, he honored the state’s veterans, praising their invaluable contributions to the nation’s security. “We honored our brave veterans for their invaluable services in valiantly safeguarding the nation, providing security with great courage, unwavering determination, and sacrifices,” Singh said in a post on X.
In another message, the Chief Minister emphasized Manipur’s significant contributions to the Indian Army. “Despite being small in population, Manipur has produced a remarkable number of high-ranking officers.
Out of the four Lieutenant Generals in the entire Northeast, two are from Manipur, and we should take pride in their services to the nation’s safety and security,” he noted. He also added that the valor of these officers would continue to inspire pride and patriotism in the hearts of the people.
The discussions and celebrations reflect ongoing efforts to bolster security and recognize the sacrifices made by the military personnel in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
