ROn Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Opposition for its remarks on the border issues with China, accusing them of working as “agents” and asserting that the nation would not tolerate such language. This rebuke follows Opposition leaders’ criticism of the central government for alleged Chinese intrusions into Ladakh and their failure to safeguard India’s borders.
Responding to the ‘Motion of Thanks’ on the President’s address in the Lok Sabha, PM Modi expressed unwavering confidence in the strength of India’s armed forces, regardless of attempts by the opposition to undermine their morale with loose words. He warned against demoralizing the armed forces and stated that the country would not accept language used by those acting as agents for someone else.
PM Modi highlighted the progress in the country’s peace and security over the last decade, noting the containment of terrorism and Naxalism to a small region. He emphasized India’s policy of zero-tolerance towards terrorism, stating that the world has been compelled to follow it.
Proud of the capabilities of the Indian armed forces on the borders and at sea, PM Modi called for national pride in their strength. He dismissed the idea that loose remarks could demoralize these forces and reiterated the nation’s intolerance towards such language.
Taking a swipe at Congress MP DK Suresh’s ‘separate nation’ remark, PM Modi accused some forces in the country of attempting to divide the nation. He expressed shock at the notion of people discussing the division of the country and emphasized the need to move beyond such divisive conversations.
Modi on Kashmir
Using Kashmir as an example, PM Modi highlighted the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) success in resolving a longstanding issue in the country. He mentioned that discussions in the house had shifted from heated arguments about Kashmir to focusing on development activities in Jammu and Kashmir. While acknowledging opposition to mentioning Nehru, PM Modi asserted that decisions made by leaders like Nehru had caused difficulties for the people of Kashmir.
