Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur to pay homage to Dr BR Ambedkar on Sunday.

The Prime Minister’s visit highlighted the significance of Deekshabhoomi as a place of transformation and reverence for millions of Buddhists worldwide.

Accompanied by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, PM Modi was warmly received by Bhadant Arya Nagarjuna Shurei Sasai, the president of Deekshabhoomi.

The Prime Minister offered prayers to Mahatma Buddha in a poignant gesture of respect and reverence.

Deekshabhoomi: A Landmark Of Buddhist Faith

Deekshabhoomi, a globally recognized site, has long been a center of Buddhist teachings and cultural significance.

The site, modeled after the famous stupa built by Emperor Ashoka at Sanchi, Madhya Pradesh, holds the largest stupa in the Asian continent.

Inaugurated on December 18, 2001, by the then President of India, KR Narayanan, the monument stands as a symbol of Dr Ambedkar’s efforts to revive Buddhism in India.

The memorial holds significant historical and cultural value, particularly for Dr Ambedkar’s embrace of Buddhism on October 14, 1956.

The event marked a key moment in India’s history and still attracts pilgrims and scholars of Buddha and Dr Ambedkar’s teachings.

Deekshabhoomi: A Place Of Peace, Unity, And Learning

Deekshabhoomi is not just a religious site but a beacon of peace and harmony.

Visitors from across the globe come to reflect on the teachings of Buddhism, making it a key location on the Buddhist Circuit.

The memorial hosts an annual mega celebration on Dhamma Chakra Pravartan Din, organized by the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Samiti.

In his address, Dr Ambedkar highlighted Nagpur’s historical significance as the homeland of the ancient Buddhist ‘Nag’ people.

He chose Deekshabhoomi to revive Buddhism, urging followers to uplift their lives by following the Panchen Lama’s principles and Buddha’s Eightfold Path.

Deekshabhoomi continues to remain a symbol of Dr Ambedkar’s transformative vision and a global center for peace and Buddhist philosophy.
