PM Modi: Millets Gain Popularity; Enhance Health & Farmer Incomes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep appreciation for the people of India and the world for increasingly adopting millets, also known as Shree Anna, during the 130th episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat.

He noted that even three years after declaring 2023 as the Millet Year, public enthusiasm for millets remains strong, reflecting a shift towards nutritious and sustainable food habits.

Highlighting grassroots efforts, PM Modi praised women farmers in Kallakurichi district, Tamil Nadu, who formed the Periyapalayam Millet FPC.

Around 800 women established a Millet Processing Unit and now directly supply millet-based products to local markets, inspiring other communities across the country.

He also drew attention to farmers in Ramsar, Rajasthan, where over 900 members of the Ramsar Organic Farmer Producer Company cultivate pearl millet.

These farmers produce ready-to-eat millet laddus, which have gained high demand in regional markets, demonstrating innovation and entrepreneurship in agriculture.

The Prime Minister welcomed the growing use of millets in religious offerings, commending temple administrators who now serve only millets in prasad, promoting both tradition and health.

PM Modi emphasised that millets are a superfood, rich in nutrients, supporting both farmers’ incomes and public health.

He encouraged citizens to include Shree Anna in their winter diet for maximum benefits.

Through farmer innovation, community initiatives, and temple support, millets continue to gain popularity nationally and internationally.

The Prime Minister’s remarks underline India’s focus on promoting healthy, sustainable food practices while strengthening the agricultural and nutritional landscape of the country.
