PM Modi Inaugurates Kartavya Bhavan; Says It Will Save ₹1,500 Cr In Annual Rent & Boost Efficiency

PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated Kartavya Bhavan at Kartavya Path, New Delhi, positioning it as a transformative step in modernising India’s administrative infrastructure.

He described the new building as cost-effective, efficient, and aligned with India’s environmental goals.

₹1,500 Crore in Rental Savings Annually

PM Modi revealed that the government has been spending nearly ₹1,500 crore every year on office rentals due to ministries operating from scattered locations across the national capital.

Kartavya Bhavan will consolidate offices and significantly reduce public expenditure.

“Offices being spread across rented buildings forced 8,000 to 10,000 government employees to travel daily between ministries. This increased traffic congestion, fuel costs caused inefficiencies,” said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister said Kartavya Bhavan would not only improve administrative efficiency but also enhance employee productivity by centralising government operations.

He highlighted the building’s green features, including rooftop solar panels, underscoring India’s push for sustainable infrastructure.

“The building reflects our vision for holistic development, it’s not just a structure, but a symbol of governance for a Viksit Bharat (Developed India),” PM Modi said.

PM Modi called August a ‘month of revolution’, noting Kartavya Bhavan as the latest in a series of landmark infrastructure projects in Delhi.

He listed recent developments, including the New Parliament Building, Bharat Mandapam, National War Memorial, and Yashobhoomi Convention Centre.

“These are not ordinary buildings; they are temples of governance shaping the future of our nation,” PM Modi added.

PM Modi noted that several ministries, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, still function from century-old buildings with inadequate facilities. He stressed the need to move away from outdated systems to match the needs of 21st-century India

“India cannot progress using old, inefficient infrastructure. We must upgrade for efficient governance,” the PM stated.

A Decade of Citizen-Centric Reforms

Reflecting on the government’s performance over the last ten years, PM Modi said India has moved towards transparent, citizen-focused governance.

He said consistent reforms in infrastructure and service delivery have aimed to empower every section of society and improve the ease of living.

“This is not just about convenience; it’s about empowering citizens and strengthening democracy,” the Prime Minister concluded.
