PM Modi Highlights NEP 2020 As Cornerstone Of India’s Self-Reliance Journey

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underscored the transformative potential of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, calling it a key driver in India’s journey towards self-reliance and long-term development.

Taking to social media, the Prime Minister shared an article by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, published in a leading daily, which explores the changing role of teachers in today’s dynamic world.

Titled ‘The Teacher in a Changing World’, the article positions educators as the true architects of the nation’s future.

PM Modi praised the piece for highlighting how India’s teachers are quickly adapting to digital classrooms, artificial intelligence, and innovative teaching tools, all supported by government platforms like PM eVidya, DIKSHA, and SWAYAM.

According to the Prime Minister, these initiatives are helping address diverse learning needs while enhancing accessibility across the country.

Foundation for Atmanirbhar Bharat

The Union Education Minister wrote that NEP 2020 remains a bold national mission and sits at the heart of the government’s vision to build an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) by 2047, coinciding with the 100th year of independence.

“The NEP designates teachers as ‘transformers’ who will shape future generations into responsible, skilled and well-rounded citizens,” Pradhan noted, echoing the Prime Minister’s longstanding views on the significance of teachers.

In a deeply reflective statement, Pradhan wrote, “Parents give birth; the guru gives life. These life-givers are the soul of the magnificent building. The school building, which the government can construct, is like the body, but the teachers are the soul.”

Having completed five years since its launch, the NEP 2020 has set the groundwork for systemic transformation in India’s education landscape.

Among the most notable reforms is the introduction of the ‘5+3+3+4’ academic structure, which replaces the old 10+2 model and aligns with global best practices.

Moreover, the recently unveiled National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF 2023) furthers this agenda by encouraging experiential, multidisciplinary, and competency-based learning across all levels of schooling.

NEP 2020 aims to move Indian education beyond rote learning and rigid examinations, towards fostering critical thinking, creativity, and real-world problem-solving.

PM Modi’s endorsement of this vision reflects a commitment to preparing India’s youth for global challenges while grounding them in local values and knowledge systems.

As India looks ahead to 2047, NEP 2020 is seen as a cornerstone in shaping an inclusive, innovative, and self-reliant future for the nation.
