Before commencing a two-day visit to Laos for the 21st ASEAN-India Summit and the 19th East Asia Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to Ratan Tata’s brother, Noel Tata, to extend his condolences on the passing of the esteemed Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah represented the Government of India at Ratan Tata’s funeral, reflecting the nation’s respect for the influential industrialist.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi expressed his grief over Tata’s demise in a series of posts on X.
Tata, who died at Breach Candy Hospital after battling age-related health issues, was remembered as a ‘visionary business leader, a compassionate soul, and an extraordinary human being’.
PM Modi praised Tata for providing stable leadership to one of India’s oldest and most prestigious business houses, adding that his impact reached well beyond corporate leadership.
“He endeared himself to many through his humility, kindness, and unwavering commitment to improving society,” the Prime Minister posted.
Highlighting Tata’s unique ability to dream big and give back, PM Modi noted his dedication to various causes, including education, healthcare, sanitation, and animal welfare.
Reflecting on his personal interactions with Tata, PM Modi further recalled, “My mind is filled with countless interactions with Shri Ratan Tata Ji. I would meet him frequently in Gujarat when I was the CM. We would exchange views on diverse issues. I found his perspectives very enriching. These interactions continued when I came to Delhi. Extremely pained by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family, friends and admirers in this sad hour. Om Shanti.”
Ratan Tata, 86, passed away on Wednesday at Breach Candy Hospital after receiving treatment for age-related health issues.
In a statement, the Tata family expressed a profound sense of loss and shared details of the funeral proceedings. Additionally, they took his mortal remains to the NCPA Lawns at 10:30 AM to allow the public to pay their last respects.
The final journey from Nariman Point to the Worli Crematorium will commence at 4:00 PM. At the crematorium, the family will drape Ratan Tata’s remains in the national flag and honor him with a police gun salute before consigning him to the flames.
