Delhi-NCR Air Quality Turns ‘Severe’ As AQI Crosses 400 In Several Areas

Data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) indicate that air pollution in several areas of Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad has reached ‘severe’ levels, with AQI readings soaring beyond 400.

In the national capital, Alipur recorded an AQI of 420, Anand Vihar reported 403, and Ashok Vihar stood at 370.

Pollution levels in Bawana and Burari Crossing were also high, both exceeding 390.

In neighbouring Noida, the air remained heavily polluted as well. Sector 125 reported an AQI of 345, Sector 116 recorded 357, and Sector 62 registered 323.

Conditions were more alarming in Ghaziabad, where Loni reported an AQI of 420, Vasundhara stood at 389, Sanjay Nagar at 360, and Indirapuram at 334.

Overall, the Delhi-NCR region continues to experience air quality ranging between the ‘very poor’ and ‘severe’ categories.

Health specialists have warned that breathing such polluted air for long periods can lead to serious health issues, including breathing difficulties, throat irritation, and lung infections.

Health authorities have advised children, senior citizens, and people with asthma to take extra care and limit outdoor activities.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a gradual dip in temperatures over the coming days.

Between 4 November and 9 November, Noida’s maximum temperature will likely fall from 29°C to 27°C, while the minimum may decline from 19°C to 15°C.

Light rainfall is also possible in parts of Delhi-NCR on Tuesday or Wednesday, according to the IMD.

Weather officials said that drizzle and changing wind directions could slightly improve pollution levels. However, they advised residents to avoid going out early in the morning or late in the evening. People have also been urged to wear protective masks when outdoors.

On Monday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 31.5°C, about one degree above normal, while the minimum stood at 17.2°C, two degrees below average.

Meteorologists forecast that the maximum temperature will range between 28°C and 30°C on Tuesday and Wednesday. They expect the minimum temperature to fall below 15°C by Thursday. The drop is likely as north-westerly winds grow stronger.
