Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on citizens to reclaim unclaimed financial assets through the government’s ‘Your Money, Your Right’ initiative.
Speaking via a post on LinkedIn, the Prime Minister described the programme as a way to ‘convert a forgotten financial asset into a new opportunity’ while promoting a financially empowered and inclusive India.
During the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, PM Modi shared startling figures highlighting the magnitude of unclaimed wealth in India.
He revealed that Indian banks hold Rs 78,000 crore of unclaimed deposits, insurance companies have nearly Rs 14,000 crore lying idle, mutual funds contain around Rs 3,000 crore, and dividends worth Rs 9,000 crore remain unclaimed.
To simplify the process of tracing and claiming funds, the government has launched dedicated portals.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) provides the UDGAM Portal for unclaimed bank deposits and balances, while the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) offers the Bima Bharosa Portal for insurance policy proceeds.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) manages the MITRA Portal for unclaimed mutual fund amounts, and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs provides the IEPFA Portal for unpaid dividends and unclaimed shares. PM Modi emphasised that these platforms make the process transparent and accessible for all citizens.
Widespread Facilitation and Impact
As of December 2025, facilitation camps have been organised across 477 districts in rural and urban India, ensuring coverage even in remote areas.
The government, regulatory bodies, banks, and financial institutions have already returned nearly Rs 2,000 crore to the rightful owners, the Prime Minister noted.
Looking ahead, PM Modi urged citizens to actively check whether they or their families have unclaimed deposits, insurance proceeds, dividends, or investments, and to use the portals and local facilitation camps to claim their entitlements.
The initiative aims not only to return dormant funds to citizens but also to strengthen financial inclusion and awareness.
By converting unclaimed assets into productive resources, India moves closer to a transparent, accountable, and financially empowered society, the Prime Minister concluded.
Here is a chance to convert a forgotten financial asset into a new opportunity.
