PM Modi & CM Yogi Honour Kakori Revolutionaries On 100th Anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Saturday, commemorated the centenary of the Kakori Rail Conspiracy, paying homage to the courage and vision of the revolutionaries who undertook one of the most daring acts in India’s struggle for independence.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “On this day, a hundred years ago, the courage shown by patriotic Indians at Kakori highlighted the resentment among people against colonial rule. They were angry at the manner in which people’s money was being used to further colonial exploitation. Their valour will always be remembered by the people of India. We will keep working to fulfil their dreams for a strong and prosperous India.”

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath also paid tribute to the heroes of the Kakori Rail Action, honouring their bravery and sacrifice as a lasting inspiration for the nation.

The Kakori Rail Conspiracy: A Defining Moment

The Kakori Rail Conspiracy, often known as the Kakori train robbery, occurred on August 9, 1925.

Members of the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA), including prominent revolutionaries Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaqulla Khan, Chandrashekhar Azad, Rajendra Lahiri, and Roshan Singh, halted the 8-Down train on the Saharanpur–Lucknow route near Kakori railway station in Uttar Pradesh.

The revolutionaries seized the government treasury funds transported on the train to finance their armed struggle against British colonial rule.

This bold act was not only a means to secure resources but also a clear political statement against British exploitation and oppression.

The British authorities responded with a swift and severe crackdown. The British authorities arrested, tried, and harshly punished many revolutionaries involved.

The colonial government executed Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaqulla Khan, Rajendra Lahiri, and Roshan Singh in 1927, making them martyrs for the cause of freedom.

Others received lengthy prison sentences. Chandrashekhar Azad evaded capture and continued to fight for India’s independence until he died in 1931.

The Kakori Conspiracy remains a symbol of youthful bravery and sacrifice that galvanised the Indian freedom movement. Its centenary serves as a reminder of the cost of liberty and the spirit of resistance against colonial tyranny.

The commemorations by PM Modi and CM Yogi highlight the enduring respect for these revolutionaries and their ideals. Their courage continues to inspire the nation’s pursuit of progress and unity.

By remembering the Kakori heroes, India honours its rich history and renews its commitment to the values of patriotism and national service.

This tribute on the centenary underscores the importance of remembering those who laid down their lives for India’s freedom. It inspires current and future generations to contribute to the nation’s growth and well-being.
