In Mumbai, PM Modi and UK PM Keir Starmer reaffirmed their shared vision for global stability and prosperity.

PM Modi Calls India–UK Partnership A Pillar Of Global Stability

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday underlined that the collaboration between India’s dynamism and the UK’s expertise is creating a distinctive synergy for a brighter shared future.

Speaking after his meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Raj Bhavan, PM Modi said, “Our partnership is trustworthy, driven by talent and technology, which will help make the future of both countries brighter.”

He described India and the UK as ‘natural partners’ bound by a common belief in democracy, freedom, and the rule of law.

“In this era of global uncertainty, our growing partnership is becoming a crucial foundation for global stability and economic progress,” he stated.

Highlighting the growing economic engagement, PM Modi noted that relations between the two nations have strengthened remarkably under Prime Minister Starmer’s leadership.

“During my visit to the UK in July, we reached an agreement on the historic Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). Your visit to India just months after that, accompanied by the largest-ever UK business delegation, symbolises the new energy and broader vision shaping the India–UK partnership,” he remarked.

The two leaders committed to promoting innovation, exchanging technology, and advancing sustainable trade to boost bilateral commerce and investment.

Prime Minister Modi said the 1.8 million-strong Indian community in the UK strengthens bilateral ties, combining India’s dynamism with the UK’s expertise.

He added that the partnership spans defence, security, education, and innovation, driven by talent and technology.

Dialogue on Global Peace and Security

PM Modi and PM Starmer also discussed key geopolitical issues, including peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific, the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

PM Modi reiterated India’s consistent stance, saying, “India supports all efforts to restore peace through dialogue and diplomacy.”

He added that both countries are fully committed to strengthening maritime security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region to ensure free and open sea routes and a rules-based global order.

In a major step towards deeper defence collaboration, PM Modi announced that both nations have finalised an agreement on cooperation in military training.

“Under this agreement, Flying Instructors of the Indian Air Force will serve as trainers in the UK’s Royal Air Force,” he said, describing the initiative as a significant stride in mutual defence capacity-building.

The partnership aims to expand joint exercises, knowledge exchange, and technological innovation in the defence sector, reinforcing both nations’ commitment to maintaining regional and global security.

Education and Cultural Exchange: A New Chapter

PM Modi also welcomed the robust participation of the UK’s education sector in India’s growth story.

“The largest and most influential education delegation from the UK has accompanied Prime Minister Starmer. It is a matter of great joy that nine UK universities are now set to open campuses in India,” he shared.

He also cited the Gurugram campus of Southampton University, which has already admitted its first group of students, as a shining example of this academic collaboration.

The India–UK partnership, rooted in shared democratic values and a forward-looking vision, continues to expand across trade, education, defence, and innovation.

By leveraging their strengths in talent, technology, and trust, both nations are positioning their alliance as a pivotal force for global peace, prosperity, and stability.
