There has been no other word, despite Union Minister Anurag Thakur’s dismissal of it as a “rumor” and criticism of the “mindset” of the opposition for objecting to the name “Bharat.”

According to those with knowledge of the situation, “the ministers were told that they needed to confront falsehoods and attacks against issues of faith with assertiveness, to put things in the proper perspective, and to rely on the provisions of the Constitution that do not allow the denigration of any religion.”

He also gave his ministers the directive that “no minister other than the authorized person should speak at the G-20 meeting.”
