Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday conveyed his best wishes to the Indian Navy on the occasion of Navy Day, applauding the force for its commitment to national security and its progress in indigenisation.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Navy Day greetings to all personnel of the Indian Navy. Our Navy is synonymous with exceptional courage and determination. They safeguard our shores and uphold our maritime interests. In the recent years, our Navy has focused on self-reliance and modernisation. This has enhanced our security apparatus.”
PM Modi said he fondly remembers celebrating Diwali this year with naval officers aboard INS Vikrant.
“Wishing the Indian Navy the very best for their endeavours ahead,” he further added.
The Prime Minister also released a video message, where he highlighted the Navy’s pivotal role in protecting sea routes and economic interests, saying, “In the ocean, our Navy is determined to protect the maritime borders and commercial interests of the country. Whether it is offshore petrol vessels, submarines or aircraft carriers. Today, the strength of the Indian Navy is increasing exponentially.”
PM Modi further added that India’s growing power aims to contribute to the welfare of the world, noting, “India’s tradition has been about power and strength. Our knowledge, our strength and our strength is for the service of humanity and for the security of humanity. Today, when the economic system of the country is dependent on the interconnected world and progressive maritime borders, India’s Navy is playing an important role in global stability.”
Navy Day is celebrated every year on 4 December to recognise the Navy’s contribution to national security. The day also marks the success of Operation Trident in the 1971 war, when Indian naval forces sank several Pakistani vessels, including PNS Khaibar.
As part of this year’s celebrations, the Navy displayed its operational capabilities off the Thiruvananthapuram coast in Kerala on Wednesday.
The demonstration, however, involved the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, frigate INS Udaygiri and multiple surface and aerial assets, showcasing readiness across various combat domains.
President Droupadi Murmu, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, observed the event from Shangumugham Beach.
A total of 19 warships, a submarine, four fast vessels and 32 aircraft took part in the showcase, highlighting the Navy’s increasing preparedness and maritime reach.
