Prime Minister Modi recently granted an interview to Tamil Nadu’s Thanthi TV channel ahead of the Lok Sabha elections’ first phase. Touching upon various topics ranging from electoral bonds to the significance of Tamil culture and language, Modi addressed several key issues.
One notable point of discussion was electoral bonds, where Modi emphasized their role in providing transparency in funding, thereby enhancing political parties’ accountability.
Speaking passionately about Tamil culture and language, Modi lamented the lack of pride surrounding Tamil, despite its status as one of the oldest languages globally. He underscored the need to celebrate Tamil heritage worldwide and advocated for depoliticizing both Tamil cuisine and language, stressing the importance of inclusive development across India, starting with the states.

During the interview, Modi fondly recalled his involvement in the historic ‘Ekta Yatra,’ initiated in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari. As the yatra’s coordinator, he recounted receiving the national flag from revered freedom fighters Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Rajguru’s brothers, an event culminating in the flag’s hoisting at Lal Chowk, Srinagar, in 1992.
Responding to queries about the BJP’s electoral prospects, particularly the aspiration for over 400 seats despite a decade in power, Modi expressed confidence in the people’s support for the BJP and NDA. He articulated his focus on India’s development, aiming for a developed nation by 2047.
Regarding the actions of central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against politicians, Modi clarified that while ED had registered around 7,000 cases nationwide, only a small fraction—3 per cent—involved politicians.
In essence, Modi’s interview touched upon crucial electoral, cultural, and developmental aspects, reflecting his vision for an inclusive and prosperous India.
