Congress Unveils 17 New Candidates for Lok Sabha Polls, Including Y.S. Sharmila Reddy and Tariq Anwar

The Congress party unveiled its latest list of 17 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday. Notably, the state unit chief, Y.S. Sharmila Reddy, has been nominated to contest from the Kadapa seat in Andhra Pradesh. The distribution of candidates in the latest list comprises eight from Odisha, five from Andhra Pradesh, three from Bihar, and one from West Bengal.

Within the framework of the seat-sharing agreement with the grand alliance in Bihar, the Congress party has allocated candidates for nine seats. The selected candidates include Mohammed Jawed for Kishanganj, Tariq Anwar for Katihar, and Ajeet Sharma for the Bhagalpur Lok Sabha seats.

M. Pallam Raju, former education minister, has been designated as the Congress candidate for the Kakinada seat in Andhra Pradesh. Meanwhile, Dr. Munish Tamang has been named as the sole candidate announced for West Bengal, contesting from Darjeeling.

This recent announcement brings the total number of candidates declared by the Congress party to 228.

Nevertheless, the anticipation surrounding the prestigious constituencies of Amethi and Raebareli remains unresolved.

On Monday, the Congress party unveiled its tenth list of candidates for the impending Lok Sabha elections, revealing the nominees for Maharashtra’s Akola seat and Telangana’s Warangal seat. The announcement of the candidate for Akola marks the conclusion of speculation regarding a potential alliance with Prakash Ambedkar’s Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) in Maharashtra. Abhay Kashinath Patil, representing the Congress party, will go head-to-head against VBA chief Prakash Ambedkar in the electoral fray.

The forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled to be conducted in seven phases beginning on April 19, will determine the representatives for 543 parliamentary seats. Approximately 97 crore voters are eligible to exercise their voting rights in this crucial general election.
