Senior TMC leader Mahua Moitra exudes confidence in securing her Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat with a larger margin in the upcoming elections. She sees her victory as a resounding response to what she perceives as a “conspiracy” to tarnish her reputation and expel her from the Lok Sabha last year, amidst raids and summons by central agencies in a cash-for-query case.
Asserting her conviction, Moitra accuses the BJP of attempting to undermine constitutional democracy in India. She contends that despite these efforts, the country is resilient and will not be destroyed by what she terms as “fascists.”
In an interview with PTI, Moitra criticizes the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), labeling them as “political agents of the saffron camp.”
Moitra also voices concerns over the perceived lack of independence within the Election Commission, attributing it to the appointment process where the Centre holds significant sway. She expresses skepticism about the EC’s impartiality in addressing complaints against BJP’s alleged misuse of central agencies.
Despite facing challenges, Moitra remains confident in her connection with the people of Krishnanagar, citing her longstanding involvement in the region’s politics. She believes her victory is not in doubt and anticipates a significant margin of triumph.
Having won the Krishnanagar seat by a substantial margin in 2019, Moitra views her potential reelection as a fitting rebuttal to the attempts to discredit her. She emphasizes her roots in the constituency and the unwavering support she anticipates from its residents.

Moitra’s tenure in Parliament has been marked by outspokenness and vigorous debates, earning her both acclaim and controversy. She denounces her expulsion from the Lower House last year and attributes it to what she terms as a biased Ethics Committee.
Regarding ongoing investigations by the CBI and the ED, Moitra dismisses them as politically motivated actions orchestrated by the BJP. She remains defiant in the face of these challenges, buoyed by support from her party and the opposition.
Looking ahead, Moitra pledges to continue her critique of the BJP’s policies and actions if reelected. She emphasizes the importance of opposition voices in holding the government accountable.
When asked about the possibility of defeating the BJP-led NDA, Moitra expresses faith in the people’s decision-making power. Despite challenges, she remains optimistic about the prospects of opposition unity and eventual electoral success.
Moitra also comments on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), stating that its implementation will not significantly impact her constituency, given the relatively small Matua population.
Regarding her opponent from the saffron camp, Moitra downplays their significance, emphasizing her focus on combating the BJP’s ideology rather than individual candidates.
