Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday asserted that peace in the Union Territory will not be purchased but firmly established by dismantling the entire terror ecosystem.
Speaking at a public event, Sinha highlighted the government’s firm resolve to uproot terrorism and deliver justice to victims.
L-G Sinha made it clear that the administration is not seeking temporary peace deals, but working towards lasting and just peace.
“We are not here to buy peace. We are establishing peace by destroying the terror machinery,” he stated.
He emphasised that the administration will not harm any innocent person but will take strict action against those who support terrorism. “We will not spare the guilty,” he added.
Sinha praised the role of the Jammu and Kashmir Police in targeting not just terrorists, but also the network that supports them.
“The police have a key responsibility to destroy every form of support, financial, logistical, or otherwise, that fuels terrorism,” he said.
The Lt Governor criticised previous administrations for allowing individuals with terror links to hold government jobs while ignoring the plight of terror victims. He said previous administrations rewarded those linked to terrorism while neglecting the victims and leaving them to fend for themselves.
L-G Sinha said the administration is now actively supporting families affected by terrorism. “We are rehabilitating families who suffered. On July 13, 40 terror victim families in Baramulla received government appointment letters,” he shared.
Sinha recounted stories of children orphaned by terrorism and said their sacrifices will not go unnoticed. “Some lost their fathers at the age of two. We are ensuring their pain is acknowledged and justice is delivered,” he said.
Declaring that ‘Naya Jammu and Kashmir’ is no longer just a slogan, the Lt Governor said the region has transformed.
“Pens and laptops have replaced stones in the hands of youth. Schools remain open year-round without hartals,” the Lt Governor asserted.
L-G Sinha said the administration has ended the days of shutdown calendars. He further noted that instead of calls for separatism, the region now hosts national and international events.
Sinha said the atmosphere of fear has faded, replaced by safety and normalcy. “The rattle of guns has been replaced by the hum of factories. Muharram processions, Eid Melas, and cinema halls are running freely. Families can move around without fear,” he noted.
He urged citizens to support the security forces in ensuring lasting peace. “Peace is not merely the absence of conflict. It is justice, opportunity, and hope. We are committed to making it permanent,” Sinha said.
The Lt Governor also announced that the administration will return all properties of terror victims, taken over by vested interests with terrorist backing, to their rightful owners by August.
