AAP Declares Solo Run In Bihar Assembly Polls; Signals Final Break From INDIA Bloc

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has officially declared that it will contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections independently, opting out of the INDIA alliance that it had joined for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Confirming the move, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, who also oversees party affairs in Bihar, told IANS on Sunday that this decision is consistent with the party’s broader strategy across various states.

“The INDIA bloc was only for the Lok Sabha elections, and then we fought alone in Haryana elections, Delhi elections, Gujarat and Punjab by-elections. Now, we will also fight alone in the Bihar elections,” Singh explained.

The announcement follows widespread speculation about AAP’s distancing from the alliance, particularly after its performance in the Lok Sabha elections.

In Delhi, where it allied with Congress, the coalition failed to secure a single seat, as the BJP maintained a clean sweep for the third straight time.

AAP has since criticised Congress for its failure to act as an effective opposition, squarely blaming the party for the alliance’s defeat.

Singh earlier confirmed that AAP would skip the INDIA bloc meeting held on 19 July, further solidifying the party’s exit.

“The party no longer remains a part of the alliance,” he stated.

Singh Distances AAP from Bloc Infighting

When questioned about whether other members of the INDIA bloc might leave due to dissatisfaction with Congress’ leadership, Singh replied, “As far as the Aam Aadmi Party is concerned, whether on the streets or in the Assembly, they have played and will continue to play a strong opposition role everywhere. As far as other parties are concerned, I can’t say. I can only speak for my party.”

These remarks come shortly after AAP’s victory in the Gujarat Visavadar bypoll, where party chief Arvind Kejriwal accused Congress of dividing votes and indirectly aiding BJP.

Kejriwal had emphasised, “The INDIA bloc was only for the Lok Sabha polls. Now, there is no alliance from our side.”

On the upcoming Monsoon session of Parliament, Singh added that AAP MPs will bring attention to significant issues including the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, slum demolitions in Delhi, and the ongoing revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.
