Operation Sindoor: Rahul Gandhi Challenges PM Modi In Parliament; Questions Political Will Behind Military Action

On the seventh day of the Monsoon Session, Rahul Gandhi accused the government of failing to provide the political will required for Operation Sindoor’s success.

Referring to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s statement that the operation lasted only 22 minutes, Rahul claimed the most damaging revelation was the 1:35 AM call to Pakistan confirming a strike on non-military targets and expressing a desire to avoid escalation.

He argued this demonstrated ‘a lack of courage at the highest level of leadership’.

Challenge to PM Modi Over Trump’s Claim

Rahul Gandhi’s most striking remark was his direct challenge to PM Modi to declare that Donald Trump lied when claiming he prevented a war between India and Pakistan.

The comment quickly fuelled political debate and went viral on social media, drawing both criticism and support across party lines.

Congress MPs joined Rahul in criticising the government, alleging that the military was denied operational freedom.

They demanded a detailed explanation of why, despite intelligence warnings, political directives restricted targeting strategic assets. Congress leaders stressed that ‘political will and operational autonomy’ are essential for national security.

BJP’s Counterattack

BJP leaders defended the government, stating Operation Sindoor was a ‘measured and decisive’ response aimed at avoiding civilian casualties while sending a strong message to Pakistan.

They accused Rahul Gandhi of demoralising the armed forces and politicising national security during a sensitive debate.

Home Minister Amit Shah asserted, “No government has acted as firmly against terrorism as this one.”

Rahul Gandhi also condemned the Pahalgam massacre, blaming the Pakistani state for orchestrating the brutal killings.

MPs across party lines unanimously condemned the attack, while Congress leaders argued the government failed to secure vulnerable regions despite clear threats.

Citing Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan’s remarks, Rahul argued that the issue was not the loss of aircraft but ‘why they were lost’, blaming strategic decisions made at the political level.

He emphasised that directives limiting their operational scope should not hold the Indian Air Force accountable.

As the Operation Sindoor discussion continued, the political divide deepened. The Opposition pressed for transparency and a review of national security protocols, while the ruling party framed the criticism as an attempt to undermine India’s global standing.

The government is expected to respond formally as the Monsoon Session resumes.
