Nitish Kumar Resigns As Bihar Chief Minister After Nearly Two Decades In Power

Nitish Kumar resigned as Bihar’s Chief Minister, concluding a political phase spanning nearly two decades. He submitted his resignation to Governor Syed Ata Hasnain at Raj Bhavan, Patna, Bihar, which was promptly accepted.

In a message on X, Kumar reflected on his tenure since November 24, 2005, when the NDA government first assumed office under his leadership.

Nitish Kumar emphasised sustained improvements in governance, highlighting strengthened law and order and inclusive growth across sectors such as education, healthcare, road infrastructure, electricity, and agriculture. He highlighted targeted schemes for women, youth, and marginalised groups, stressing social empowerment as a key priority.

Nitish outlined the forthcoming ‘7 Nishchay-3’ vision for 2025-2030. He expressed confidence that it will accelerate Bihar’s development and boost its contribution to national growth.

Nitish Kumar also acknowledged consistent support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in advancing the state’s growth agenda.

Having recently entered the Rajya Sabha, Kumar indicated a strategic pivot to national politics. He confirmed that the decision to resign had been finalised earlier, following a concluding Cabinet meeting.

Nitish Kumar assured full cooperation to the incoming administration and conveyed optimism regarding Bihar’s continued advancement.

Concluding his remarks, he extended gratitude to the people and colleagues for their enduring support.
