Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor, a transformative infrastructure project designed to accelerate connectivity between the national capital and Uttarakhand.
The 210-kilometre expressway, constructed at a cost of ₹11,868 crore, will significantly reduce both travel distance and duration.
The route, previously spanning 235 kilometres, will now shrink to 210 kilometres. Travel time will also decline from approximately 6.5 hours to nearly 2.5 hours upon full operationalisation.
The corridor is expected to enhance mobility, stimulate regional commerce, and strengthen logistical efficiency.
The Prime Minister received a rousing reception during a roadshow in Dehradun, where large crowds assembled along the route to greet him.
Supporters waved the national flag and party banners, while cultural displays added vibrancy to the invitation. Women and children dressed in traditional Uttarakhand attire lined the streets, reflecting strong public enthusiasm.
The atmosphere remained festive as the convoy progressed through the city, with continuous public engagement and ceremonial welcome.
Before inaugurating the corridor, PM Modi offered prayers at the Jai Maa Daat Kali Temple. Children welcomed him with devotional recitations, including the Durga Devi Stotram, while he interacted with devotees present at the site.
The visit underscored a cultural and spiritual dimension alongside the developmental milestone.
Earlier, the Prime Minister reviewed the wildlife corridor segment located on an elevated stretch in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Officials presented a detailed exhibition outlining construction methodologies and ecological safeguards integrated into the project. He also conducted a roadshow along the wildlife corridor, where enthusiastic crowds gathered on both sides of the route, showering flower petals in a display of support.
Senior leaders accompanied the Prime Minister during the visit, including Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak.
The initiative reflects the government’s sustained focus on modern infrastructure, environmental sensitivity, and regional development.
