Five individuals have been taken into custody by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on suspicion of engaging in computer fraud and human trafficking.
An official stated that arrests happened on Monday as a result of thorough searches carried out in several locations throughout Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh in collaboration with the state police forces and NIA.
According to NIA investigations, the accused were part of an organized trafficking gang that lured and trafficked young Indian people abroad under the pretext of providing them jobs.
“The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday conducted searches at multiple locations across six states and union territories in joint operations with local police in a case of human trafficking involving forced cyber crimes which led to the arrest of five accused persons,” an official statement read.
Manish Hingu from Vadodara, Prahlad Singh from Gopalganj, Nabialam Ray from southwest Delhi, Balwant Kataria from Gurugram, and Sartaj Singh from Chandigarh were identified as accused.
In all sites, the NIA said that it conducted a coordinated operation with state police forces and central intelligence agencies. Several incriminating items, including documents, digital devices, handwritten registers, numerous passports, fake overseas job letters, etc., were seized as a result of the searches. Additionally, eight new FIRs have been filed by police departments in various states and union territories.
The youth were being forced to work in fake call centres in Laos, Golden Triangle SEZ and Cambodia as part of the racket, controlled and operated mainly by foreign nationals.
