Nepal floods And Landslides Leave At Least 26 People Missing, Two Dead

At least two people were killed and 26 others went missing as floods and landslides triggered by monsoon rains wreaked havoc in eastern Nepal, officials said on Sunday.

Police officials told the Kathmandu Post newspaper that a man was found dead and that 21 other workers at the Super Hewa Hydropower Project in Chainpur Municipality-4 have vanished.

It has not yet been determined if the workers relocated to a safer area after the flood or were carried away by the Hewa River, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Birendra Godar.

A 9-year-old child lost her life in the nearby Panchthar district when a landslip swept away her home.

Following the area’s flooding, five Chainpur people have also gone missing, according to the police.

The report further stated that preliminary research indicates the flood happened after landslides at Chainpur Municipality-4 and Panchkhapan Municipality-9 obstructed the river.

In addition to issuing warnings about rising river water levels, weather forecasters predicted that Nepal would continue to experience heavy rainfall over the next few days.

The monsoon season, which normally starts in June and lasts until October, is just getting started in Nepal.
