Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on Friday on his death anniversary. He remembered the Father of the Nation for ideals that continue to shape India’s social and national vision.

As the country observed Martyr’s Day, leaders across the political spectrum reflected on Gandhi’s influence on India’s journey towards self-reliance and moral leadership.

In a message shared on social media, PM Modi highlighted Gandhi’s strong emphasis on Swadeshi. He described it as a guiding principle for building a developed and self-reliant India.

The Prime Minister said Gandhi’s life and work continue to inspire citizens. He urged people to follow the path of duty, discipline and national responsibility.

He further underlined that Gandhi’s philosophy remains relevant in contemporary India. According to him, it plays a key role in efforts aimed at economic self-sufficiency and ethical public life.

Tributes from Union Ministers

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid homage to Gandhi. He highlighted Gandhi’s role in uniting a nation divided by language, region and caste.

Shah said Gandhi broadened the freedom movement by weaving together Swadeshi, cleanliness and the spirit of independence. He added that these ideas helped envision a strong and inclusive India.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari also paid his respects. He acknowledged Gandhi’s enduring place in the nation’s collective memory.

Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju offered a detailed tribute. He emphasised Gandhi’s global relevance and moral leadership.

Rijiju said Gandhi’s philosophy of truth, non-violence and harmony continues to guide not only India but the wider world. He added that these values promote peace, ethics and human dignity.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi remains the most revered figure in India’s freedom struggle. Through his steadfast commitment to non-violence and civil disobedience, he mobilised millions and played a decisive role in ending British colonial rule.

An assassin killed Gandhi on January 30, 1948. The nation observes the day each year as Martyrs’ Day, remembering his enduring message of peace, unity and moral courage.
