The Namami Gange Mission is rolling out comprehensive strategies to ensure that Maha Kumbh 2025 becomes a grand celebration of spirituality, cleanliness, and environmental sustainability.
In an effort to maintain the purity of the Ganga and ensure its uninterrupted flow during the festival, 10 sewage treatment plants (STPs) with a combined capacity of 340 MLD are already operational in Prayagraj.
To further strengthen these efforts, the Mission has approved three major projects for the 2025 event.
These include the construction of additional STPs:
- 43 MLD plant at Salori,
- 90 MLD plant at Rasulabad, and
- 50 MLD plant at Naini
These facilities aim to not only provide clean, pollution-free water for devotees but also ensure the long-term cleanliness of the river.
The ongoing transformation of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers in Prayagraj is one of the key successes of the Mission.
Once heavily polluted by 81 drains, the rivers have seen significant improvements thanks to collaborative efforts between the Namami Gange Mission and the State Government.
The authorities have successfully tapped and treated 37 of the 81 drains, stopping their pollution flow into the rivers. Additionally, they have identified five drains as dry or non-functional, requiring no further action.
Namami Gange Mission & State Government Tackle Drain Cleanup For Maha Kumbh 2025
As part of its ongoing efforts, the state government has allocated funds to address 17 more drains, while the remaining 22 drains are being handled under the leadership of the Namami Gange Mission.
The Mission’s ambitious projects aim to make Maha Kumbh 2025 a clean, safe, and eco-friendly event while preserving the purity of the Ganga and Yamuna.
By leveraging cutting-edge technology, well-planned infrastructure, and active community participation, officials set these initiatives to leave a lasting legacy in Prayagraj, enhancing the city’s sewerage infrastructure for years to come.
With these measures, the Namami Gange Mission is setting new benchmarks for environmental protection and making Maha Kumbh 2025 a model of sustainability and cleanliness for future generations.
