The upcoming Maha Kumbh 2025, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is likely to make history with the setting of several world records, including a potential record for the largest gathering of devotees at a single event and the world’s largest eye test and glasses distribution program.
For the first time ever, eye tests for 5,00,000 people will be conducted, and 3,00,000 pairs of glasses will be distributed at the event.
The organizers have set up a special ‘Netra Kumbh’ (Eye Kumbh) in Sector 5 near Nagvasuki, covering an expansive 10-acre area. They will launch this initiative on 5 January 2025, offering free eye tests to all visitors.
Those in need of surgery will also have access to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Dr. Ranjan Bajpai, a member of the organizing committee, shared details about the event, explaining that the goal is to double the previous number of eye tests conducted during the last Netra Kumbh.
This year’s target is 5,00,000 tests, with a daily goal of 10,000 tests.
Plans are underway to include this effort in the Guinness World Records, following the previous Netra Kumbh’s inclusion in the Limca Book of World Records.
A total of 240 major hospitals across India have joined forces with the event, with doctors from various states volunteering their services.
The event will take care of medical professionals by providing accommodations and meals tailored to their regional preferences.
Netra Kumbh 2025: Enhanced Organization & Medical Support For Eye Tests
Rajesh Kumar Singh, responsible for crowd management, explained that this year’s Netra Kumbh will be more organized, with additional hangars and dedicated spaces for registration, consultation, and glasses distribution.
Each eye test area will have a team of four doctors and ten optometrists to ensure smooth operations.
The organizers have chosen a single vendor to supply high-quality glasses, ensuring attendees receive the best care. Additionally, they will set up a special eye donation camp at the event to encourage people to donate their eyes.
Inspired by the legacy of Emperor Harshvardhan, who contributed everything he had for the welfare of others, organizers are hoping to raise awareness and generate support for cornea donations.
In the previous Netra Kumbh, more than 11,000 people pledged to donate their eyes, and this initiative aims to surpass that number, helping to restore sight to thousands in need.
With these monumental plans, the Maha Kumbh 2025 promises to be not only a spiritual gathering but also a landmark event in health and humanitarian initiatives.
