Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday and sought the Centre’s support for funding and statutory approvals for key state projects.
Officials said the discussions focused on issues related to Andhra Pradesh’s growth and long-term development.
Naidu briefed the Home Minister on ongoing and proposed projects and requested timely assistance from the Centre.
In a social media post later, the Chief Minister said the talks centred on the state’s progress and future priorities, underlining the importance of close Centre–State cooperation to accelerate development.
Meetings with Other Union Ministers
Earlier, Naidu met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at Parliament House. He raised matters concerning financial support, central grants, and funding for major state initiatives, reiterating Andhra Pradesh’s development priorities and seeking continued fiscal backing from the Union government.
Naidu, whose Telugu Desam Party is a key ally in the BJP-led NDA government, also met Union Steel Minister HD Kumaraswamy.
During the meeting, he thanked the Centre for its support in reviving the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, officially known as Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited.
He said financial assistance from the Centre, strong backing from the state government, and the commitment of the workforce had enabled the turnaround of the public sector unit.
According to Naidu, the steel plant is now operating at full capacity and has returned to profitability, which he described as a major milestone. He urged the Centre to continue its support to ensure the plant’s long-term sustainability and growth.
The Chief Minister also met Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, during which he discussed the state’s flagship Swachh Andhra initiative under the Swachh Bharat programme.
Naidu briefed the minister on measures being taken to strengthen waste management systems across Andhra Pradesh. He said the state aims to become a Zero Landfill State and has prepared a detailed action plan under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0.
The plan, estimated to cost Rs 276 crore, seeks to achieve zero landfill status across urban local bodies. Naidu requested the Centre to approve Rs 105 crore as its share for implementing the initiative.
Officials said the meeting focused on aligning Andhra Pradesh’s sustainability goals with national sanitation objectives and strengthening Centre–State cooperation to achieve lasting environmental outcomes.
