Former governors of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, as well as senior Congress leader, Aziz Qureshi, have made controversial statements. Qureshi targeted some members within the Congress for their stance on Hindutva and their focus on religious pilgrimages. He expressed his disappointment at this and referred to such actions as shameful and self-destructive. He labeled Congress’s policies as anti-Muslim and indicated that even if he is expelled from the party, he wouldn’t be concerned. He criticized those who talk about Hinduism and engage in religious symbolism while disregarding Muslims. He clarified that Muslims aren’t slaves to any party and urged people to recognize that.

Qureshi, in a warning tone, stated that Muslims aren’t anyone’s slaves, including Congress. He criticized the fact that Muslims are not included in the military, police, or navy and questioned why they should vote for such parties. He defended his controversial statement in an interview with a private news channel, asserting that he stands by it and has no regrets.
Aziz Qureshi has held various positions, including being a Cabinet Minister in Madhya Pradesh and a Member of Parliament from Satna in 1984. He has also served as the governor of three states: Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Mizoram. He was appointed as the Chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Urdu Academy in 2020.
