Mumbai Cop Assaulted By Unidentified Man Over Questioning On Suspicious Behaviour

Police in Navi Mumbai stated on Monday that they had opened a case against an unidentified man for allegedly abusing a police inspector when he questioned the guy about his suspicious behavior near a bank.

The event happened in the Koparkhairne area on Sunday at around 3.30 am. The individual was observed suspiciously hanging around a motorbike near a bank by a police unit on night patrol.

He took out a sickle from his bag as the authorities attempted to question him, according to a Koparkhairne police station official. The accused struck an inspector who who tried to pin him down , causing the cop to stumble and sustained minor wounds. He claimed the man ran away by taking advantage of the darkness.

The police have registered an FIR against the unidentified man under Indian Penal Code sections 353 (assault or use of criminal force on any person being a public servant in the execution of his duty) and 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant) and provisions of the Arms Act, the official said. Efforts were on to trace the culprit, he added.
