BJP MP Manoj Tiwari met CM Rekha Gupta to congratulate her on granting electricity to “booked properties.”
He said the move takes a major step toward resolving a long-standing civic issue affecting lakhs of households.
The Delhi government, led by Rekha Gupta, lifted a decades-old ban blocking MCD-booked properties from legal electricity connections.
This decision now allows residents of such properties to apply for proper power supply.
The earlier rule left thousands of families dependent on illegal lines, irregular supply, and unsafe wiring systems.
Acting on the Chief Minister’s instructions, officials issued a formal notification declaring that over 1.25 lakh households will immediately benefit from the reform.
The government aims to ensure that every resident, regardless of their property status, receives access to safe and legitimate electricity.
CM Rekha Gupta said she took the decision in the public interest. She noted that many families had lived in booked properties for years without proper access to electricity.
She said this lack of access forced them into daily struggles and often pushed them toward electricity theft for basic needs.
CM Rekha Gupta emphasised that denying electricity to any household violates basic rights and undermines dignity.
According to her, the new policy not only reduces hardship but also brings greater transparency and accountability to Delhi’s civic framework.
She added that ensuring electricity access will improve safety, reduce illegal connections, and promote a more stable power-supply system in affected localities.
Manoj Tiwari praised the government’s decision both during the meeting and publicly on X.

He described the reform as a “big step” by the BJP-led administration in Delhi. He said it reflects the party’s commitment to resolving ground-level issues faced by ordinary citizens.
Tiwari added that the move will significantly ease the burden on families who have lived without secure power connections for years.
He said the decision showcases a governance model focused on practical solutions, citizen welfare, and long-delayed reforms.
The Delhi government has positioned itself to deliver long-awaited relief to thousands of households. It also aims to improve safety and fairness in the city’s electricity distribution system.
