More Trains, Better Security: DMRC Unveils New Commuter Measures

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Sunday unveiled several new measures aimed at improving public transport usage in Delhi-NCR, including additional train services, stronger security arrangements and better commuter connectivity.

The Metro operator said 24 extra train trips will be added every Monday from May 18 with the introduction of six additional trains.

Officials stated that they could also introduce more services on other days if passenger demand rises.

According to the corporation, the decision is part of efforts to encourage greater use of public transport and reduce dependence on private vehicles and fuel-based road travel.

DMRC said it is ready to manage any increase in passenger traffic. The corporation will continue monitoring commuter movement across the network to maintain smooth operations.

To handle larger crowds more efficiently, the Metro authority plans to strengthen station management systems by deploying extra security staff and opening more ticket counters.

Additional baggage scanners and spare door frame metal detectors will also help reduce waiting time at stations during rush hours.

The corporation highlighted that the Metro network provides direct connectivity to major railway stations, airport terminals, Interstate Bus Terminals, the Namo Bharat corridor, Noida Metro and Rapid Metro Gurgaon.

DMRC added that the network links commercial districts, government offices, educational centres and tourist locations throughout the National Capital Region.

The agency also said it has strengthened first-mile and last-mile transport services at around 160 Metro stations through facilities such as e-rickshaws, bike taxis, cab services and bicycle rentals, benefiting nearly one lakh commuters daily.

Officials further highlighted the role of the DMRC Saarthi app, which allows passengers to book Metro tickets and access connected transport services through a single platform.

Recently, DMRC introduced hydrogen-powered bus services in the Central Vista area in partnership with Indian Oil Corporation Limited to improve transport links between Metro stations and government offices.

In addition, around 1,500 Devi buses operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation are currently functioning as feeder services at 52 Metro stations, with plans to expand the fleet further.

Ticketing Shift

Parking facilities are presently available at 126 Metro stations to support park-and-ride travel and encourage commuters to shift towards public transportation.

DMRC also noted that it is expanding digital ticketing options, including QR-code tickets, National Common Mobility Cards, WhatsApp ticket booking and integration with platforms such as Paytm, PhonePe, Amazon and IRCTC, as part of its broader urban mobility strategy.
