Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted India’s first-ever Dolphin Rescue Ambulance as a significant achievement in wildlife conservation, describing the initiative as a remarkable step towards protecting the endangered Ganga river dolphin and preserving aquatic biodiversity.
Speaking during the latest episode of Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister encouraged young people to develop meaningful hobbies and deepen their connection with nature.
During his address, PM Modi shared an inspiring conservation story from Uttar Pradesh that has attracted widespread attention across the country.
PM Modi referred to a widely shared video showing the rescue of a stranded Ganga river dolphin.
Rescue teams successfully retrieved the dolphin from shallow waters, provided medical treatment and safely released it back into the Rapti River.
Reflecting on the operation, the Prime Minister remarked that a precious life had returned home.
PM Modi praised the Dolphin Rescue Ambulance, describing it as a mobile hospital equipped with oxygen support and emergency care facilities for injured or stranded dolphins.
Operating under the National Mission for Clean Ganga, the specialised vehicle provides rapid medical assistance and rescue support for river dolphins.
The initiative also aims to improve survival rates by delivering specialised treatment directly at rescue sites, reducing delays that often threaten the lives of injured aquatic animals.
PM Modi said protecting the Ganga river dolphin helps preserve the Ganga’s biodiversity and broader ecosystem. He described the Dolphin Rescue Ambulance as a model of how technology and conservation can work together to protect wildlife.
The initiative has drawn attention to aquatic conservation, with the successful 13-hour rescue operation showcasing India’s growing commitment to environmental protection.
