Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the growing involvement of people in the ‘Catch The Rain’ campaign during the latest episode of his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat. He said citizens across India are actively contributing towards conserving rainwater, restoring traditional water sources and improving groundwater availability.

Recalling his earlier appeal, PM Modi said the campaign has transformed into a nationwide movement, with communities in villages and cities taking part in different water conservation activities.
The Prime Minister said the central idea behind the campaign is to store rainwater at the location and time where it falls. He added that the nationwide initiative launched on July 4 is promoting rainwater harvesting, groundwater replenishment, revival of old water bodies and tree plantation.
PM Modi appreciated the dedication shown by citizens, local administrations and social organisations in implementing the campaign. He said people are cleaning ponds, restoring wells and stepwells, and converting unused borewells into groundwater recharge systems.
Highlighting successful examples from different parts of the country, PM Modi said several regions have achieved notable progress through community-driven water management efforts.
Prime Minister Modi mentioned that people in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district have created nearly 1,500 ponds, while Narsinghpur has restored Amrit Sarovars to improve water availability. He also highlighted Nashik in Maharashtra, where the campaign has helped increase water storage capacity.
The Prime Minister also praised Nandyal district in Andhra Pradesh, where every gram panchayat participated in the initiative and restored old ponds. He added that urban areas such as Korba in Chhattisgarh, Bhubaneswar in Odisha and Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh are also witnessing encouraging outcomes from the campaign.
PM Modi encouraged citizens to continue supporting water conservation efforts and adopt responsibility for protecting nearby ponds, wells and stepwells. He said the water saved today will become a valuable resource for future generations.
The Prime Minister urged everyone to contribute towards creating a sustainable and water-secure India by making every drop count.
