Man behind Kerala triple blast arrested under UAPA

Dominic Martin, the man who took credit for several consecutive blasts at a convention centre in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, has been taken into custody.

He was arrested under charges of murder, the Explosives Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act led to on Monday. This happened the day after Martin turned himself in to police in the Thrissur district, claiming to have planted the bombs at the convention centre.

Martin had posted a video on Facebook prior to his surrender, in which he gave his motivation for carrying out the series of explosions at the Christian sect.

He stated in the video that although he no longer agreed with the teachings of Jehovah’s Witnesses, a minority Christian organisation, he was once affiliated with them.

I take complete responsibility for that. It was me who conducted the blast there.”

Explaining his motive, he said “Six years ago, I realised that this organisation was on the wrong path, and their teachings were anti-national. I asked them to correct it several times. However, they were never ready to do that.”

Three consecutive blasts at a convention centre in Kalamassery, Kerala, on Sunday resulted in three fatalities and more than fifty injuries.

At first, one woman had passed away. A 53-year-old woman who was one of the six critically injured later passed away. As of Monday morning, three people had died in the incident, including a 12-year-old girl who had 95% of her body burned.
