A potentially catastrophic incident was narrowly avoided late Thursday night when three wagons of a tanker freight train derailed near Ratlam railway station. One of the derailed wagons overturned, causing a significant leak of flammable material onto the tracks and raising concerns of a major disaster.
The derailment occurred around 10 P.M. as the train, traveling from Baroda to Bhopal, passed the Ghatla bridge. The incident caused the train to split into two parts, disrupting services on the Mumbai-Delhi down line.

Emergency response was swift, with Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Rajneesh Kumar and the accident relief team promptly arriving at the scene. Railway security personnel cordoned off the area, implementing strict safety measures including a ban on smoking or lighting cigarettes due to the flammable substance.
As of Friday morning, railway authorities resumed train services on the up line towards Delhi at reduced speeds, while they kept the down line blocked. This disruption led to the temporary halting of several passenger trains, causing significant inconvenience to travelers along the route.
“The accident relief team is working diligently to remove the derailed tanker wagons and restore traffic,” said Rajneesh Kumar. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from the incident, but the disruption to rail traffic was significant.
Officials are prioritizing efforts to clear the affected rail line and ensure safety protocols. They are actively managing the situation to address the incident effectively.
